Product grades and condition

Every refurbished device is graded on two independent axes: visual condition (looks) and functional condition (how it works). Each catalog item shows both. Below is what each grade means, with real examples.

Visual inspection

Cosmetic grading is done at arm's length, under normal lighting, in a few seconds. It reflects what you see when using the device, not marks only visible under magnification.

Functional test

Each unit is tested individually, including battery health. On Apple devices from 2016 onward, the battery meets the grade's minimum threshold.

Warranty

Every item carries a 2-month Return-to-Base warranty from receipt. Details in the B2B Terms.

Phones and tablets

Visual grade

Phone grade A+, hairline scratches on the frame
A+

Like new

Barely any signs of use. On the frame, only a few hairline scratches, usually near the charging port. Back without defects, with 1-2 hairline scratches on the logo allowed. Screen with a few hairline scratches, not visible at arm's length or when the screen is on.

Phone grade A, hairline scratches on the back
A

Excellent

Minimal signs of use. Hairline scratches and isolated pinpoint marks on the frame. Scattered hairline scratches on the back and one miniature defect allowed. On the screen, hairline scratches only visible at a certain angle of light with the screen off.

Phone grade B, hairline scratches on the screen
B

Good

A few signs of use visible at arm's length. Scratches and small dents on the frame. Hairline scratches, small chips and slight discoloration on the back. Screen with hairline scratches or some scattered deeper scratches.

C+

Medium, screen preserved

Frame and back at grade C level, but with a grade B or better screen. For buyers who prioritise the screen.

Phone grade C, deep scratches on the screen
C

Clear use

Clearly used. Deeper scratches and dents on the frame, with possible cracks in the plastic. Back with deep scratches, chips and discoloration. Screen with multiple deep scratches; a fragment may be missing.

Functional condition

Working

Physically complete and fully operational. Battery within the grade threshold (Apple from 2016: 80% or higher).

Minor fault, minor cosmetic damage to the frame
Minor Fault

Fully usable, with a minor cosmetic fault that doesn't interrupt use, a slightly loose part, a minor drop mark, a small LCD fault or heavy cosmetic wear.

Grade D — cracked glass
Grade D

Damaged but boots and works. May include cracked glass, a bent frame, a loose button or connectivity/camera faults. The LCD may show slight discoloration.

Grade E: lines on the LCD
Grade E

Boots and works, but with a severe screen fault, black screen, severe discoloration, screen burn, spots or lines.

No Power

Doesn't boot or stay on without a charger.

Laptops

Visual grade

Brand New

Factory sealed, security seals intact, flawless condition.

Laptop grade A+, maximum scratch allowed away from visible areas

Like new

Minimal wear. On the housing, at most 3 scratches on the bottom and 1 elsewhere. Almost perfect screen, with at most one micro-mark or scratch.

Laptop grade A, light hairlines
A

Very good

Little wear. Small marks on the sides and bottom, with small chips allowed. Screen with visible mini-defects, including light hairlines.

Laptop grade B, deeper dent allowed

C+

Apple only

Laptop grade C, overall wear, working

Used

Clearly visible wear. Slightly bent chassis and small cracks allowed, as long as structural integrity holds. Screen with noticeable wear and 1-2 dead pixels.

Functional condition

Working with note, bright spot on the screen
Working*

Operational, with specific imperfections noted in the fault description, for example screen-edge delamination, a bright spot or 3-6 dead pixels.

Grade D: heavily bent lid that won't close
Grade D

Physical or operational issues that affect use, a broken chassis, a missing part or a faulty touchpad. Screen tested and working.

Grade E: severe screen discoloration
Grade E

Severe screen fault, severe discoloration, expansive spots, delamination or a blank screen.

No Power

Doesn't power on. Data wiped.

Incomplete (Apple)

Fully tested, but with replaceable components missing (drive, battery, keyboard). No operating system installed.

Laptop screens

The screen's "workspace area" is the central zone where use is concentrated. Imperfections there weigh more than those at the edges.

Screen grade A+, almost perfect
A+

Almost perfect. Minimal micro-wear or 1-2 hairline scratches. No spots, lines, discoloration or dead pixels when the screen is on.

A

Like A+, but with visible mini-defects, light hairlines only visible at a certain angle. No deep scratches.

Screen grade B, 1-2 dead pixels allowed
B

Daily use. Light keycap marks and hairlines allowed; generally acceptable at arm's length. 1-2 dead pixels and small dim spots allowed.

Screen grade C, noticeable wear
C+ / C

Clearly noticeable wear — keycap marks, scratches where light doesn't pass through, dust in the corners, 1–2 dead pixels and dim spots allowed.

Screen grade E, severe fault
E

Severe faults, heavy delamination, a non-functional screen or white spots covering most of the screen.

Intermediate grades (AB, BC) sit between the adjacent ones. If you have any doubt about a specific item, contact your account manager or see the B2B Terms.
